"อยู่เชียงรายคืนที่ 2 มันเงียบเหงา แปลก ๆ อะไรหลายอย่างเปลี่ยนไป เรามาถึงที่นี่กระทันหันเมื่อวาน ตัดสินใจกลับเข้าบ้าน แพ็คของ หลังจากแวะซื้อตั๋วเครื่องบินขึ้นเชียงราย ช่วงเช้า

หมี่ติ๊ ภรรยาคู่กัดของอาตี จากไปด้วยอุบัติเหตุรถยนต์ที่ไม่มีใครคาดคิด การจากตายที่แสนทรมาน และไม่มีวันได้กลับมาคุยกันอีก หลายคนเคยบ่นเบื่อกับการที่หมี่ติ๊ แม่สาวตัวน้อย ๆ แต่เสียงแจ๋น ๆ ตลอดเวลา เมื่อใครไปเยี่ยมเยียนเขาที่บ้าน แต่ไม่มีแล้วเสียงนั้น

จากการบอกเล่าของอาตี .. หมี่ติ๊ออกไปเกี่ยวข้าว พร้อมพวกพ้อง โดยบรรทุกอยู่ท้ายรถกระบะ จำนวน 26 คน โดยหมี่ติ๊ไม่ได้บอกก่อนว่าจะไปทำ เพียงแต่บอกให้อาตีลุกขึ้นมาหุงหาอาหารตอนเช้าให้หน่อย วันนั้นเป็นเช้าวันอาทิตย์ อาตีก็ไม่รู้ว่า จะรีบลุกไปทำไม จึงนอนต่อ หมี่ติ๊ลุกขึ้นมาตัดพ้อ ว่าขอร้องเพียงแค่นี้ก็ทำให้ไม่ได้ ตอนหลังจึงรู้ว่า ไปเกี่ยวข้าว อาตีออกไปธุระข้างนอก กลับมารอการกลับมาของภรรยา ทำกับข้าวรอถึง 3 อย่าง แต่จนทุ่มกว่า ๆ แล้ว หมี่ติ๊ก็ยังไม่กลับ อาตีจำต้องกินข้าวไปก่อนส่วนหนึ่ง เพราะหิวมาก

ประมาณ 2 ทุ่ม อาตีได้ยินเสียงรถขึ้นดอยบ้านตัวเอง ก็ดีใจ "เออ กลับมาแล้วเนอะ" แต่แล้ว.. ก็ได้ยินเสียงรถดังโครม เขารู้ได้เลยว่าต้องมีเหตุเกิดขึ้น เขาวิ่งออกจากบ้านเพียงแค่กางเกงตัวเดียว เสื้อก็ไม่ได้ใส่ รองเท้าก็ไม่มี แต่ว่า เมื่อไปที่เกิดเหตุ ข้างสะพานขึ้นหมู่บ้าน เขาก็มองอะไรไม่เห็นเลย มันมึด และอยู่ข้างลำห้วยเล็ก ๆ เขาวิ่งกลับขึ้นมาอีกที พร้อมเพื่อนบ้าน แล้วเอามอเตอร์ไซค์ออกไป ส่องเหมือนเป็นไฟฉาย ช่วยเหลือคนเจ็บ ที่ขณะนั้น รถคว่ำ ครอบทุกคนไว้ที่ท้ายกระบะ หลายคนขุดทราย เพื่อพยายามเอาตัวเองออกมาจากที่นั่น เขาเข้าไปช่วย จับคนเจ็บคนนี้-คนโน้น ออกมา แต่เขาไม่เจอหมี่ติ๊... เขาตะโกนบอกให้คนช่วยกัน หงายรถขึ้น และเจอหมี่ติ๊โดนรถทับอยู่ เลือดออกจากจมูก และปาก เขาอุ้มร่างเธอขึ้นมา ผายปอด เป่าปาก เพียงเพื่อจะให้ภรรยาฟื้นขึ้นมา แต่มันไม่เป็นผล เงียบ และไม่มีอาการตอบสนองใด ๆ

เขาพาร่างภรรยา และคนเจ็บไปโรงพยาบาล ระหว่างทางก็เรียกหมี่ติ๊ ไปตลอด ไม่มีเสียงใดตอบออกมา หวังเพียงว่า ให้หมอปั๊มหัวใจให้เมียผมหน่อย ทำไมต้องเป็นอย่างนี้

ไปถึงโรงพยาบาล มันสายไปแล้ว หมอว่า เธอคงตายตั้งแต่ที่เกิดเหตุ

อายุเธอเพียงแค่ 21 ปี ลูกสาววัย 2 ขวบครึ่ง ต้องขาดแม่ แล้วสามีที่ยังไม่ทันได้คุยกันให้เข้าใจ ถึงความน้อยเนื้อต่ำใจต่าง ๆ นานา เธอไปแล้ว และไม่มีโอกาสได้สื่อสารกันอีก"

translation by someone's friend:

"It states that Mi Di, A di's wife, met with an accident. According to A Di, Mi di went to harvest the rice on a truck along with other 26 villagers that morning. Awaiting for his wife's return, A di had prepared dinner. When suddently he heard the truck roaring from a distance and a loud crash afterwards.

A di ran out with his torchlight towards the direction of the noise he previously heard and he found the truck wan capsized. The 26 villagers, including his wife, were trapped underneath the truck. The trapped villagers dug the sand below them hastitly to get out of the truck as the it was pinning them down and suffocating them. Many were rescued but Mi DI was no where to be found. A di yelled for help to search for his missing wife. The trucke was turned and Mi Di was lying unconciously under where the truck was. She was bleeding through her mouth and nose. A di tried to revive her by performing mouth-to-mouth respiration. His effort was in vain.

Mi di was sent to the local hospital along with the rest of the injured villagers. Throughout, Mi di kept calling her name.

They had finally arrived at the hospital, but it was too late. Doctor annouced that Midi had died at the point of the accident.

Midi was only 21 when she was alive. The couple has a 2 years old daugther, who is now ophan of mother.

intended as a visit to see how everyone was getting on one year after we spent close to 3 wonderful weeks there. now this trip has another purpose.

they just buried her today. right now e cat has not much idea what to expect when it gets there, if anyone from e cat's own host family was involved (*touch wood*), e state that e village is in (20+ able-bodied people involved is a big impact on a village of 30+ households), how best to help, & in a sensitive way, etc.

hopefully something can be worked out.
