Ceremony for souls of the departed during the seventh month Hungry Ghost Festival:
Prior to this there was a chanting session indoors (no photography allowed) that K-san & the cat watched from the mezzanine level. Don't know if this merit-making/dedication ceremony was specifically for souls of the unborn & children. The yellow sheets of paper about to be burnt were filled not with names of the deceased, but names of the mother/parents of the deceased, many with words indicating that they were aborted or miscarried fetuses.
Two differences between Theravada in Thailand & Mahayana in Singapore - here there are no problems with women standing with their heads higher than those of monks, & devotees wear black robes instead of all white:
