once again (like e previous NYDC dinner), ended up talking at length about homosexuality (from scientific point of view) & gay-bashing, Castro district + gay pride parade in SF, gays in predominantly Catholic Philippines, & a hilarious experience which can be summed up as:
Muslim girl + Chinese guy = good friends
guy's parents worried: son close to non-Chinese girl - different religion!
parents dunno son is gay....
girl knows ;)
parents start to accept son's 'choice of' non-Chinese....
guy comes out to parents!
parents decide that no matter what, love son....*awww*
parents assume that they are e first to know *erm*
parents worried: poor girl! son is conning her! wasting her time!
parent sits girl down for a talk....do you know....son is....?

cat has had quite a few arguments with homophobic guy friends. esp those who think that all gays will hit on them. cat-cat & pig-pig have been & don't quite mind being used as 'decoys' in school/work/social event situations (but we draw e line at 'fake e parents'), & when we encounter particularly obnoxious examples of such guys....*claws unsheathed* Pig-pig once hit back at one such guy:
they (gays) go for quality, so you don't need to worry
*LOL* & before he could recover from e ego-crushing blow:
even I (straight chick) won't go for you

this post saves e cat from having to type out many of its thoughts on this subject, esp e 'predator feels like e prey' part =)
[110406] first time using e skybridges, on e way to & back from an seminar on olfactory receptors =)) a lot of card-tapping (10 times), & apparently most people have no access to e cat's building. when e speaker brought up e 'one gene = one (type of) olfactory receptor' dogma, he pointed out that 'dogma' (in scientific fields) is simply something repeated over & over again by people in e field until everyone believes it =P humans just so love to tie themselves & their minds up & package them into neat little boxes ;)

LKB & e cat both got extra =P for helping HP plan her first ever solo trip to Japan....sort out accomodation (explaining Japanese-style/Western-style rooms, common baths, lock-out times, ryokans, proximities to subway station exits, choosing safer areas + online booking + even pinpointing e hotel rooftop & e surrounding Todai campus on Google maps =P)....airport transfers (Narita is in a different prefecture from Tokyo, NOT 15/30 min away!! Haneda is a different airport from Narita!! & NEX vs Skyliner vs Keisei limited express)....subway maps....sightseeing....
one look & LKB & e cat both knew that this was probably from Nakamise-dori at Asakusa Kannon-do:

[120406] new lab coat =) different design with velcro on e wrist-cuffs = no more folding or taping up with masking tape. seeing people with strips of masking tape pasted on their lab coats reminds e cat of track & field days, when 4X100m runners stuck strips of masking tape onto their shorts/shirts before walking to their changeover zones & sticking it on e track (passer with baton reaches that point = time for receiver to start running). never had to do that as was usually e starter.
new lab coat design has replaced e chest pocket with a loop similar to those on some nurse uniforms. perfect for clipping on e TLD badge (nurses use them for watches?) =) but gone are e short hip-level slits on both sides for reaching into pants pockets....verily important for those who cannot tahan having a single missed call & must, MUST glove off & answer their handphone IMMEDIATELY =P instead, replaced by a longer slit that starts much further down & goes all e way to e bottom hem cheongsam-style *DUH*
smallest size supplied is 'S', when labs in local universities & research institutes are full of girls barely above 1.5m who seem less 'lost in a mass of white cloth' wearing 'XS'. 'size-ist' bosses have joked that they prefer to hire us because we occupy less space & free up valuable room for equipment....!!
