[080506] 12 May 2006 to 2 July 2006 @ Singapore Art Museum
organized by Singapore Art Museum and Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art, Fiction@Love examines the influence of contemporary popular culture such as anime, comics, graphic communications, and manga in art. Through paintings, murals, sculptures, videos and interactive installations, the exhibition looks at ways in which emotions like 'love' are expressed, transformed by the crossovers of the real and the virtual, and exposure to the aesthetics of the internet and comics.
one of e featured artists is Ninyu Works' Yamaguchi Ai, e one who did e limited edition bottle designs for Shu Uemura cleansing oils. more on fiction@love at MOCA Shanghai.
more Japanese contemporary artists at takeartcollection by Spiral/Wacoal Art Centre. Spiral building, designed by 槇文彦 Fumihiko Maki (one of e judges for Gardens by e Bay), is an interesting place to visit in Tokyo's Aoyama district.
looking forward to this =)
[100506 update] sneak preview of fiction@love on yesterday.sg
[120506] e actual thing....
e 'WAS I HERE' in e esplanade tunnel comes to mind:
1/4 of Yamaguchi Ai's hyaku no hana yuki wa furitsutsu on a Zo card:
e hyaku & hana in e title makes one think of 百花齊放 (let a hundred flowers bloom)....apparently Yamaguchi flies to wherever in e world this piece is going to be exhibited - to paint a fresh version suited to e site's dimensions? which probably explains why e version now on show in Singapore is different from this one & this yellow version? e Singapore version has 4 girls, one each amongst bamboo, plum, chrysanthemums & orchids(?).
with this card (above) you can get one-for-one admission to e Singapore Art Museum =)
guess who don't sue - Mr National Grandfather? especially those eyebags =P
Claire Lim's Hidden Ghost....blood splattered room with animal heads mounted on e walls like hunting trophies - actually 'soft toy versions' of sheep/other animal heads with red felt cut outs (pools of blood) on e floor & red wool puffs stuck all over e white ceiling & walls....'cutest' bloodbath ever?
sweet animation film 《微笑的鱼》 'A Fish With A Smile' by Jimmy Liao of Turn Left Turn Right fame....a different kind of 放生 fang4 sheng1 on Vesak Day - how apt, especially when seeing how lighter & happier e guy became on his way to release his fish with a smile =P this site has wallpaper downloads & more stuff =)
there was also a series of pictures with cute cats from Jimmy Liao's 《遗失了一只猫》(lit. 'Lost A Cat') on display, like this & this =)
Akiyoshi ON/Megumi's ON gallery - taking e Tokyo subway, praying at Asakusa Senso-ji, crossing e street in e heart of Shibuya, etc, while dressed in a super gaudy outfit complete with matching socks, shoes, umbrella & red (with some yellow & other colours) hair & a multi-coloured cube saying 'ON gallery' on her head =P
other exhibits include 'ABSOLUTE NEWATER' by Singapore's fFurious & works by Kwon Ki-soo & ZERO
[ 160506 update ] someone who managed to take photos....we had a big fat security guard hovering around us =| though one of e 2 Ks managed to sneak a shot of e 'ABSOLUTE NEWATER' poster using her camera phone ;)
'installation art' by unknown visitor:
desperate mousewives:
e human (& cat) traffic counter:
increased from 240+ to this after e 2 Ks tested out its sensitivity by walking back & forth in front of e sensor, & after e cat maneki neko-ed it by repeatedly raising & lowering one paw in front of it like a 招财猫 (fortune cat) beside e cash register of a Japanese restaurant *cheap thrill*
coming up: visual art exhibition hybrid composite @ esplanade....& Arts Fest's Play On Earth @ 72-13 Mohamed Sultan Road
